REPAIRS VIDEO : REPLACING VERTICAL UP-KICK IN MONSTER BASH AND TWILIGHT ZONE : VIDEO
NOTE : In this video during the Monster Bash VUK install, I sometimes mention the ball should hit the right flipper coming out of the VUK. In reality, the ball should be hitting the left flipper. Also pretend I am saying weld where I keep saying soldering for the joints of the VUKS. UGH
In this video we will show how to replace a VUK in a Monster Bash and Twilight Zone pinball machine. The VUKs were purchased from Mantis Pinball. Mantis Pinball makes many different VUKs and protectors for the 80’s and 90’s Williams pinball machines.
The vertical upkicks in both of my machines were really bad and worn. The Twilight Zone VUK had a weld that was broken off from day one of me owning the pinball machine. The Monster Bash had parts cut off and always shot the ball to the right flipper. Monster Bash the ball should be going to the left flipper coming from the VUK. In my video I sometimes say the ball should be going to the right flipper but in reality it should be the left. It was time for both of these parts to be replaced.
The Monster Bash had 4 screws holding the part into the playfield. Two screws, one phillips head, and one nut that screwed into a post on the upside of the playfield. Also the the two optos and solenoid needed to come out.
The Twilight Zone had four screws holding the VUK, but two standup targets needed to come out and also the light board to the left needed to be moved in order to gain access to everything. Also I removed part of the ball trough that feeds the ball to the VUK since I needed to test the ball on the switch to make sure it was being engaged when pressed.
Overall the install went well and the VUKs were built very well.
