Last week my girlfriend and I visited Yestercades arcade in Somerville NJ. This location has been closed for sometime due to problems with the building. The arcade has reopened and is welcomed by the community.

We visited the arcade on a Sunday afternoon and the arcade was busy. Young and old were enjoying all the games present inside the building. From pinball, classic arcade games, pool tables, and air hockey, everyone found something to keep them entertained. The great thing about this arcade is that the memoribilia back from the 70’s and 80’s when I was a kid are strewn about for everyone to see. Inside the display cabinet where you enter, speak and spell, Atari 2600, Nintendo NES’s R.O.B. (Robotic Operating Buddy) are just some of the items to greet you when entering. It’s great to see those items again. In the back a snack bar is there to feed the hungry players after a long day of game playing. The snack bar was extremely clean and welcoming.

The games offered to play in the arcade were in pretty good shape. Some of these games are over 30 years old, again brings back a lot of memories of when I was a kid playing with my dad and uncle. Of course an arcade has to have the newer Stern pinball machines. Kiss, Metallica, Star Trek, and The Walking Dead were all present at Yestercades. What a great choice of games to have. Some of Stern’s finest to date are present to play. The only complaint I had of those games is that Star Trek was brutally loud, but great to play. Also some classic pinball machines were present as well, Hook, X Files, Roller Games, and Wipe Out. Wipe Out was a bit dodgy the day we played but didn’t deter from our enjoyment of the arcade.

In today’s day, pinball and arcade games are on a steep decline. It is great to see a place like Yestercades introducing the young to arcade games in the world of Xbox and Playstation. Also for people like myself who grew-up with the love for arcade and pinball, it is a place to make that great and enjoyable time in our lives rehappen again. Please support Yestercades and all the local arcades in your area. Yestercades is worth a visit.
